The Butler (2013)

Based on true events, the film focuses on Cecil Gaines, an african american plantation worker who ends up becoming a respected White House butler over the course of three decades. Through his eyes, the film explores racial tensions and significant U.S. events, such as the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War and the assassinations of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. With a didactic, entertaining tone and an all-star ensemble cast, this historical drama is appealing to watch.
