By the end of the XVI century, the Portuguese Inquisiton had made its way to Brazil. Taken by surprise, the habitants of Pernambuco are enticed to denounce any forms of Judaism practiced in their small town of Olinda. Unaware of what is going on and deprived of a fair trial, Beatriz is found guilty of practicing Judaism in secrecy and incarcerated.
