Shadowdance: Wake the Darkness

Alexis Robinette and her boyfriend Ellis Widemark spend much of their time consumed with their work. Alexis is an investigative reporter, Widemark takes frequent trips out of town on what Alexis dubs "secret missions." During one of her investigations, Alexis unearths a contact with incriminating information against the leader of the local yakuza criminal organization. A masked female assassin murders the contact before Alexis can get the information. Despite a lack of evidence, Alexis confronts the man she believes is behind the yakuza - techno-industrialist Jiro Shirokawa. During this confrontation, Alexis alludes to a prior intimate relationship with Shirokawa. Central to this relationship was Shirokawa's knowledge of Alexis's supernatural ability. She could read the memories imprinted on an object by touching said object. During their relationship, Shirokawa used Japanese sorcery to teach Alexis how to suppress her preternatural ability. Later, Alexis learned Shirokawa also used his magic to seduce Alexis into their relationship. His duplicity cost him the relationship. Soon after confronting Shirokawa with her yakuza beliefs, Alexis's power returns. It reveals a connection between Widemark's secret missions, the masked assassin, and what Alexis learns is a war between supernatural forces called the Shadowdance.
