A group of scuba divers decide to search for a local historic shipwreck. Their research leads them to the HMS Sylph, a British warship that sank off the southern coast of Long Island, NY in a violent, northeasterly storm in January, 1815. Little did they know, they would first discover a rich history about the little known war of 1812 between the US and the British empire as well as the role the HMS Sylph played in local Long Island history. This is part 1 in a multi-part series that covers the initial research and the first attempt to locate the shipwreck.
