A severe drought is causing havoc in the Karoo and the farming community face starvation. After eight-year-old Manie Griesel's pet lamb dies at his father's drought-ravaged farm, he decides to complain to the prime minister of South Africa. He hitches a ride to Pretoria with a sympathetic truck driver\, but before he gets there, he finds himself imprisoned, washing under a waterfall in Hillbrow, and saving the life of a caring hobo. Eventually, he is taken in by Dominee Marius Marais who arranges a meeting with the prime minister for him. The prime minister himself is a son of the Karoo, (he was born there himself) and is taken in by this little boy. He pulls a couple of strings and gives him the good news saying, "Go home, it has started raining there."
