It's the year 1990. Emma, a young woman who studies litterature, gets her dream job; she gets to work as a maid for the author Tobias Meldin. One night, Tobias sees The World's Greatest Story in his dreams, and starts to write it down. Emma couldn't be happier for the old author. After a few weeks of writing, Tobias is exhausted and encounter a heart attack. He wakes up in a hospital with his son, Gustav Meldin by his side. Tobias haven't seen Gustav for several years. Gustav tells Emma to tell Tobias to stop writing, his dream will get the best of him. Emma and Gustav gets into an argument, where Gustav admits he don't have the courage to tell his father what he thinks about the fact that he is writing again. Back home, Tobias wants to get started with The World's Greatest story again; he has only the last chapter left. But when he sits down in front of his writing machine, he realizes that the stroke has wiped out his memory. He can't remember how The World's Greatest Story ends! Frustrated by this fact, he spends the next weeks trying to reclaim his memory. He lives the day he saw his dream over and over again, hoping it will help. When nothing seems to work, he gets angry and in his frustration he rips The World's Greatest Story into shreds. His outburst leads to yet another stroke, and when he wakes up in the ambulance with Emma next to him, he suddenly realizes that he recalls the ending. Just before he gathers the strength to tell Emma how it all ends, he passes away.
