Who could have imagined that from Vendée to Alsace, urban and rural France would dance to old Algerian tunes, from the forties to the seventies, covered by two singers from the group Zebda? This film tells the story of this exceptional meeting between Mouss and Hakim, and their audience. By focusing on the beautiful figure of Si Mohand Salah, the father of Mouss and Hakim, Origines Contrôlées also questions transmission and the passing of the baton between generations. What do we do with the cultural heritage of our parents? How do we live with it? Mouss and Hakim have succeeded where many politicians and intellectuals have failed: they manage to make the immigrant culture of their parents known and loved, in Arabic, Kabyle and French. With Controlled Origins, the history of Algerian immigration is no longer a discourse, a "problem", but quite simply a human story and a celebration.
