Perfection (2011)

At 17, Monica was reading her friend Shannon's blog on the website Tumblr and ran across a frightening, but very human post, about Shannon's battle with eating disorders. Since then Monica has been wildly curious about the disorders and hopes to make the world just as curious, because this disorder needs to be seen. Not just skinny models and actors are accused of being "anorexic" on a tabloid, but the real people (mostly teenage girls) who are torturing their body to look like those beautiful people who get exploited on magazines. Blog websites like Tumblr let those who are crying out be heard, but what about the others who hide away? "Perfection" delves into the mind of a girl with an eating problem, Shannon Sturgeon narrates the piece with her haunting memoir of how her disorder started and developed, while Zinn also follows Colleen and Steph, two other young women who dealt with disorders. Cheryl Hunsberger also does a wonderful job at mediating the discussion.
