Glazier owner Emma Stckel doesn't get upset quickly. But this woman across the street, who could be her twin sister, amazes her. A mirage? Curious, she follows the elegantly-dressed lady who disappears behind a front door. While Emma is reading the nameplate on the doorbell, a hectic man comes towards her. He doesn't let her speak and takes her to a press conference in a luxury limousine. Before Emma really understands what's going on, she stands in front of an angry crowd, and behind her are the city notables. Everyone is eagerly waiting for her to speak. At that moment she realizes that the man who brought her here is Wolter von Auenstedt and that she is being mistaken for his wife: the notorious building contractor Hedwig von Auenstedt, who wants to flatten a historic old town in favor of streamlined new buildings against the residents' will. Emma, who is fighting against this project in a citizens' initiative, seizes the opportunity. To the demonstrators' applause, she simply calls off the unpopular undertaking. Now the real Hedwig von Auenstedt foams with anger and immediately sets her lawyers on the fraudster. Wolter, on the other hand, has respect and makes contact with the courageous master glazier, who outwardly looks very similar to his wife, but otherwise embodies the exact opposite.
