Strongman - The Tragedy is a film about the events of January 19, 1967, when an explosion ripped through Green's Section of New Zealand's largest underground mine devouring all in its path. Nineteen men were killed, fifteen bodies were recovered on the same day, two more three weeks later and two were never found. A whole community was involved and affected and this film conveys the power of their emotions as the story unfolds through a potent mixture of compelling interviews, archival footage and dramatic reconstruction. Woven into the peoples stories are dramatic scenes from the subsequent Commission of Inquiry revealing the causes of the disaster and the reasons why 45 years on many in the community are still bitter.
