Anchor Baby is a family comedy that centers on Tommy Chu's dysfunctional relationship with his father Victor and mother Ruth and his quest for a normal life in the chaotic world of the Asian-American assimilation and immigration experience, while co-leading the A.A.P.I. civil rights movement- in the setting of a quirky and volatile family-owned SF Chinatown Chinese restaurant. WW2 and modern anti-hate/mass mobilization themes intersect while Tommy learns the hard way that "pain is inevitable but suffering is optional."
