This documentary is focused on showing the two sides of Amherst, MA. The first side being a quaint college town, where roughly 20% of its residents are educated with a BA or higher, and the other side being the 20% of its residents who have fallen so low beneath the poverty level that they are now homeless. Both of these statistics, of education and homelessness are well ABOVE the state and national levels. "Homeless in a College Town" will display a variety of interviews exemplifying a series of studies conducted by psychologists at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Toronto in Canada earlier in 2012 stating that the educated and cultured class, are more likely to care for "one's own welfare over the welfare of others". This body of work should open eyes to the fact that a community shouldn't judge itself by money or education but rather how well they take care of others who can't take care of themselves. Is Amherst one of these towns? Or are they pioneers, setting new standards in ways to help the homeless?
