Robert McGinnis' career as an artist is explored from the 1950s when he gained fame as a painter for Dell paperback book covers, through the 1960s when he created posters for such movies as "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Cotton Comes to Harlem" and numerous James Bond features, up to the present as a magazine illustrator and landscape painter. The film includes interviews with contemporary illustrators such as Dave Stevens and Jim Silke and follow McGinnis through his creative process.
