Ekohistorie (2000)

A comprehensive presentation of the development of environmental organizations, movements, civic initiatives, and associations in Czechoslovakia. It delves into organizations like CSOP (Czech Union for Nature Conservation), Brontosaurus, Deti Zeme (Children of the Earth), Ceské Matky, Prazské Matky, and others. This is achieved through archival footage from demonstrations and interviews with participating activists. It also showcases images of polluted roads and cities from cars without catalytic converters, which are now a thing of the past thanks to environmentally friendly technologies. The documentary explores topics such as scientific and technical development, uranium mining for Soviet atomic bombs, Temelín, and Gabcíkovo in the first half. The second half seamlessly transitions to the post-revolutionary era, focusing on Czech and Slovak Federative Republic. It compares what has improved and what has worsened in terms of environmental conditions and our relationship with it. The documentary also highlights newer organizations such as Jihoceské Matky, Hnutí DUHA (The Rainbow Movement), NESEHNUTI, and the anti-globalization street-party in the Czech Republic.
