Brought up by a broken boxer, young Nicky can fight like a one man army. Running away from his troubled upbringing, he falls into working at a traveling fairground. Quickly drafted into illegal bare-knuckle boxing he tries to keep his head down, earn a crust and avoid being brutalized by those that see him as an outsider. Falling in love with the fairground boss's daughter wasn't part of the plan. The lovers try to keep their passionate affair from the eyes of the suspicious carnival folk, but eyes are everywhere and gossip is rife in the close-knit community.
