Leaving Israel either temporarily or for good had always been condemned by one aspect of the Zionist ideology, termed the "Negation of the Diaspora". However, around 13 percent of the Israeli population lives abroad these days, while moving or traveling away from the "Promised Land" has come to be considered a privilege by the Israeli youth. While some leave in order to escape military service, which remains an obligatory and fundamental "rite of passage" into the Israeli society, others travel upon its completion in order to forget about their time spent in the army. While the majority claims to be looking for "freedom and success" outside Israel, it bears many questions not only about the nature of their quest, but also about the contemporary Israeli society and values that inspire it.
