Leaks (2014)

When a young Anishinaabe girl experiences racism for the first time after an afternoon on the land harvesting wild leeks, her mother realizes that she can't protect her daughter from all the evils in the world, but she can have tremendous influence in mitigating the damage. Audio clips of Leanne Simpson's public speaking during #IdleNoMore accompany her spoken word track, 'Leaks,' with music by Tara Williamson, and visuals of Leanne and her daughter living on the land of the Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg. The film is about the Anishinaabeg connection to the land and passing that knowledge to the next generations. It's about teaching our children to be proud of who they are no matter what the outside world does to try to tear them down.
