Common racing industry practices include acquiring young horses and disposing of worn-out ones. Horses that serve their owners for years and compete in races and other competitions are one day sold to a slaughterhouse, where they are butchered and their meat is processed into dog food (and in some countries, also for humans) by butchers. While cows and sheep at least have a pasture to graze on before they are slaughtered, these discarded horses are left starving, beaten, and neglected as they await their fate.
