In April 2011, Toowoomba mother Samantha-Ann Brownlow, hatched a plan to kill her 60-year-old stepfather Robin Behrendorff believing she would obtain $550,000 from the sale of his estate. So, she manipulated and recruited her 19-year-old son Corey Lovell to suffocate his grandfather in his sleep, promising a $50,000 cut of the inheritance if he helped her. They drove over 400 kilometres to Robin's home in Burnett Heads, a seaside village in the Bundaberg Region, thinking the murder would be swift and quiet. Upon arriving at his home, they found Robin was awake. Samantha screamed at Corey telling him to "kill him" over and over. Corey panicked then bludgeoned and stabbed Robin to death. Both Samantha and Corey were investigated, arrested and trialled. Samantha and Corey later discovered during questioning that Samantha was removed from Robin's will and would have inherited nothing from the crime. She pleaded guilty, but Corey maintained he was innocent. Samantha and Corey are currently serving life sentences in prison. What turns a "Mama's Boy" into a murderer? Did Corey truly intend to cause grievous bodily harm or was he coerced? For Samantha, was all this effort just for money? These are the questions our documentary asks. Digging deeper into this crime lead to chilling and conflicting discoveries about the people involved. Finding the truth about what drove a mother and son to murder.
