We witness his torment and confusion; from the way he looks at himself, to his memory and moments that are snapped back and fourth. Is his memory loss and remembrance a curse? Yes, until we think of it as protection. His consciousness knows his brain is dying. To preserve his understanding his memory allows a safe place to exist. A place where the worst events of his life simply never happened. He has lost nothing, and has lost nobody. Or has he? Jack is loved by his family. They are saying their long goodbye to him. There is fear, understanding, confusion and compassion. Ultimately, the person they love only exists peripherally.
