EVA 23 tells the story of the ill-fated spacewalk of Italian ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano and NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy in July 2013. Shortly after the EVA began, Parmitano's helmet began filling with water, resulting in a termination of the spacewalk. As he made his way back to the airlock, the water covered his eyes and nose, blinding and nearly drowning him. When Luca tried to navigate his way along the truss and back to safety, the ISS passed though orbital sunset into complete darkness, leaving him without communications; lost and totally alone. The documentary illustrates what happened and why, tells how the actions of EVA partner Chris Cassidy, the crew on board ISS, and the support team back in Houston saved Luca's life, and what NASA and the Mishap Investigation Board learned from this near-fatal event.
