Rookie FBI Agent Dennis Marshall goes undercover in the New York City music scene with the purpose of infiltrating DMG Records. Diamond, the CEO of DMG is suspected of murder and using profits from drug trafficking throughout the Northeast to establish his record label. Using the alias Atlas, Dennis is posing as an ex-con who had been found guilty of executing a failed Ponzi scheme. Dennis ingratiates himself with the Diamond by appearing to save his life during a hit staged by the FBI. As time goes by, Dennis begins to care for the artists on the record label, as well as Diamond. Dennis is married and has a newborn, but he is away for months at a time, eventually leading his wife to seek a divorce. When he stops reporting to the FBI daily, as required, his superiors decide the time has come to pull the plug on the operation. When Dennis realizes that the FBI he serves is actually the one causing the problems for DMG, Dennis must choose between the federal agency he swore to serve and his competing loyalty to a corrupt record label executive he was assigned to bring down.
