I Thought I Knew You is a synoptic tale of 3 life-long friends, each of a different race but all had an identical upbringing. The relationship between Brandon Chung, Ashton Blackwell and Christopher Winthrop collides in an argument over a voting choice in the time during Obama's presidency and the not-so-new, Trump America. A week later during their physical therapy visit, the men entertain the doctors and staff with their stories of growing up together as best friends and what ultimately led to their accident. But more importantly, they share how their friendship endured while facing racism, and stereotyping fueled by their unique relationship. Pushing the boundaries of friendship, diversity and male emotions, we see inside a friendship that crashes, breaks, then heals, producing a stronger, richer bond between multi-ethnic, multicultural trio who share the same background. I Thought I Knew You is inspired by a book by J. Scott Henderson, the Executive Producer. "White Man, Black Man, Chinese Man" chronicles the unique and inspiring relationship of Winthrop, Blackwell, and Chung. It provides a glimpse into real-life situations of race, morals, and multiculturalism, and it reveals true insights about the power of racism and the human ability to overcome it.
