The plot is based on three stories from the Orthodox spiritual heritage. The idea of the first - "Unusual obedience" - was prompted by a parable from the ancient Patericon: one cannot become proud of praise and do not grumble when scolded. The second story, "Silent Prayer," told by St. Basil of Kineshma, shows that even while standing in church, we often think about worldly affairs, but at the same time we want to be heard. The third novella is the story of Father Pavel Gruzdev about "How Christ went to visit", but, dressed in earthly clothes, was once again rejected.
