Ingrid Bjerkås became the first woman to become a priest in the Norwegian Church, but was opposed by priests, bishops and the Church Faculty, something which characterized both Bjerkås and her family. In the summer of 1961, when she became a priest at Senja, she received a warm reception, and was loved by the church. Fifty years after her inauguration, she is hailed as a pioneer in the church, and the Church Faculty regrets the treatment she received.
