Arabella is a lost soul, attempting to explore her youth while battling the existential darkness that encompasses her mind. This film explores her struggle with mental health issues in a very personal way, as she is clearly traumatized from past experiences. Voices in Arabella's head dictate her every move and she is unsure if she wants to remain alive. "Dear Arabella" is a metaphorical reminder to the person inside all of us, the devil on our shoulder, who we attempt to rid ourselves of while climbing into adulthood. The story is a metaphor for mental health progress, but based deeply within reality, as it was 3 years in the making. Bobby Vu successfully captures the growth of 18 year old actress Vienna Sharp, who narrates her own writing in a stream of consciousness format. The viewers are given a brutally, yet beautifully, honest page from her journal come to life.
