Encantado (2018)

Considered at the dawn of the 21st century as the "land of the future", Brazil collapsed in 2013 into a deep crisis that led to the rise of Jair Bolsonaro to presidency in 2018. Encantado draws a portrait of this recent history from filmmaker's homeland: a homonymous neighborhood in the suburbs of Rio transformed to the Olympic Games. Diving into the lives of its residents, the film goes at the same time through the story of personalities like ex-president Dilma Rousseff and recently French-based young Brazilian students. From Rio to Paris, where the story begins, Encantado offers a political and poetic view of Brazil by the first generation of working class people to study abroad.
