She was selected first in the Turkish Beauty Queen Contest organized by Cumhuriyet Newspaper in 1932. She was chosen as the "World Beauty Queen" in the most prestigious contest of the period, the World Beauty Contest, held in Spa, Belgium on 31 July 1932 and attended by the delegates of twenty-eight countries. The original name of the competition that Keriman Halis won in Belgium was International Pageant of Pulchritude. The International Beauty and Elegance Contest in Turkish was the most prestigious beauty contest organization of that period. Keriman Halis was given the surname "Ece", which means "king queen", by Atatürk himself, after the surname "Woman", which was published in 1934.
