Wout van Aert is a Belgian professional road cyclist and off-road cyclist (cyclo cross). He is a three-time UCI world cyclo cross champion, known for his rivalry with his contemporary, the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel. Van Aert, over time, also became active as a road race cyclist. He specialized in sprints and most recently won a flat stage in the 2019 Tour de France (a stage with finish in Albi), beating the Italian sprinter Elia Viviani. In addition, Van Aert is a time trial specialist.
