Yasi's primary training in film production took place at Ryerson University, though she is also a graduate of York University's Film Program. Her areas of interest include social and political justice, global refugees, women's rights, and food and environmental justice. In her early film school days, she made 'Away from the Walls' and 'A Day with Lev', both of which were nominated for awards at the CineSiege Film Festival. Her first feature-length documentary, Sustenance, is a reflection on food's journey around the world. The film explores the notion of sustainability, posing questions about the viability of the world's current methods of food production. It looks at food-related issues through the prisms of social justice, climate change, and the possibility of having a universal healthy diet. Yasi is the producer of 'Age of Iron', directed by her brother Davoud Gerami, an experiment in microcinema shot in 10 countries in Asia.
