Mark Rice was born to Mary and James Rice of Overland Park Kansas. James a mechanic and laborer by trade and Mary an office clerk. His early education was intensive and his youth was spent in physical activity as well as technical training. He had an interest in everything from crystal radios to the martial arts. As such he began training under Steve Mackey and Steve Stillwell in the art of Bushidokan, a mixture of Okinawan Shorin-ryu, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and Muay Thai kickboxing. Mark often spent hours on end working on his Commodore 64 and he played soccer through his youth. It was in his freshman year of high school at Shawnee Mission West where his interests turned to a decidedly more artistic nature. Mark developed a love for painting and sculpture as well as a keen interest in photography and film. Mark is the owner and proprietor of M.A.Rice Studios and the brands MARS Photography and MARS Design and Fabrication. His photography ranges from live art and musical performance to portrait and landscapes. He is a staff Photographer for Crypticon Conventions and can often be found among the festivities. His fabrication business has created awards for film premiers and awards ceremonies as well as decorative and functional props for film and stage productions. He is an inventor and a well known publisher of 3d print media.
