Catherine Phillips was born in 1951 in London, UK but grew up in Australia. Returning to London in 1977 she pursued a career as a Research Scientist with hobbies of poetry and photography. In 2018 she an Experimental Film Course at the City Lit in London out of which came her first experimental film, Ode to Daphne, about the essential role nature plays in healing emotional upheaval after a diagnosis of breast cancer. This was accepted at the Oaxaca Film Festival in 2019 where she met other film makers who gave advice and support for her to continue her career. She wrote the script for her next movie, The Message, on the way home on the airplane. She did a script writing course with Corey Mandel in Santa Monica. Ode to Daphne won Best Experimental Short at a number of other Film Festivals including The Golden State Film Festival where she met the composer Mike Breidegam who is composing the music for The Message which she has now filmed and edited. It is set in the town of Golborne in Lancashire during the week that her partner's mother was lying in state in a funeral home. In 2020 she joined the London Film Club, We Make Films, and did an hour documentary of the shooting of the movie "The Birthday" which is now on the home page of their website. The club offers her opportunities to gain skills in the Industry. As an older gay woman with a more than 30 year relationship, Catherine Phillips, tries to tap into her core to create a voice that she does not see often represented in film.
