Mikyla Jane Durkan

Mikyla was born and raised in the north-west of England. At school she was drawn to the fantastical and surreal stories of Greek mythology which sparked a lifelong interest in and love of drama and storytelling. Although studying Theatre and English at college, life intervened and after a brief sojourn in Paris she was distracted by the world of retail, management and law. At age 37 and at a real low point in her life, she changed direction and obtained a place to study Community Drama at LIPA and applied her creativity within various community projects. After graduating in 2009 she spent some time traveling throughout Italy producing TIE shows. On her return she co-founded Burjesta Theatre championing local and working-class actors and productions in Liverpool. She wrote, directed, produced and was technical director for 22 shows (100 performances) delivering new writing, commissioned pieces and re-imagined classics. In 2015 she dipped her toe back into acting by taking on the pivotal role of 'Medea', a character which she felt defined her range and intensity as an actor. Thereafter, she began to work as an actor on stage and in several multi-media pieces. Realising that acting was the only thing that truly inspired her she gave everything else up in 2019 to focus solely on pursing an acting career and is now firmly on that road and has been busy throughout 2020 and into 2021.
