Aliya began her career as a photographer, shooting portraits of her friends downtown in NYC, while working for David LaChapelle in the East Village. Her photo essays have been published by The New York Times Magazine, Vogue, Rolling Stone, and The New Yorker. Aliya's photographic portraits of musicians and celebrities inspired global advertising campaigns that she shot for major brands such as Converse and Levi's. In 2010, Aliya traveled to Haiti and documented the situation after the earthquake. She began interviewing the women who lost their homes. Aliya's mother was a child refugee, and she empathized with their tough situation. Since then, Aliya has been creating short films that dive into the heart of her subjects to share their stories. From the Syrian refugee camps to Liberia, West Africa, her documentaries reveal an honest perspective into the lives of others. In 2018, Aliya co-directed a video series for Swing Left to help take back the House of Representatives for the midterm elections. Creating over 30 films with major celebrities and politicians, representing women's rights, LGBTQ rights, immigration rights, and more, the viral campaign was successful and gathered hundreds of thousands of volunteers to help gain control of the house. Aliya's short films have been published by The New York Times, Vogue, Refinery29, and The Washington Post. She creates campaigns and commercials from a human perspective. Her work has led her to consult for the Obama Administration and the U.N.
