Dr. Nana Afoh-Manin

Date of birth : No data
City of birth : No data

Dr. Nana Afoh-Manin's mom was one of fourteen siblings to hustle her way out of the remote village life of Late, Ghana to raise money for her own education. She came to the U.S. with the same survival instinct and tenacity to build a life for herself. Since she worked as a nurse and didn't always have access to childcare, Nana often accompanied her mom to work, spending much of her childhood in hospitals and emergency rooms. Inspired by the charitable works of her late Ghanaian mother, Nana embarked on her own path of service, completing medical school and residency in Emergency Medicine. As Nana watched her mother lose her battle to cervical cancer, she became infuriated with the inequalities in the health care system. She made it her mission to break down those barriers and today, her mother's spirit lives on in her daughter. She has participated in disaster/humanitarian teams across the U.S., Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and as a trained disaster response specialist, she was a part of the response team during Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy. When Dr. A is not working or traveling, she's at home with her four-year-old son and husband. On top of working in the ER and volunteering her time, when Nana comes home, she switches gears and turns into a homeschool teacher to her son.
