Roger Davies is a British actor, musician, martial artist and comedian from Scotland. Early life ; Roger grew up in Central Scotland the youngest of two sons. Being the son of parents of Northern English origin and growing up in 1980s Central Scotland Roger became very aware of the tribal nature of British culture with its negatives and positives and the inherent potential not only for conflict but also for comedy. This perspective in many ways formed his artistic character, with these themes present in both his comedy and his musical expression. Moving to Newcastle in his late teens to study music at Newcastle college, he lived for five years in the West End and in Heaton, joining the legendary local band 'The Radiators' as lead guitar player. In 1998 Roger moved to London to pursue his music and acting career forming the band Pilgrim Speakeasy & The Playthings. Since then he has lived in Denmark and Finland and continues to produce music and perform as an actor/comedian. Music ; Under the artist name 'Pilgrim Speakeasy' Roger Davies has been active as a producer and performer since 1998 releasing 6 albums to date. The music has been described as 'The World's Foremost Eclecto-Funk-World-Rock-Electro-Folk Anomaly!' Roger is a multi instrumentalist who performs and produces most of the instruments on Pilgrim Speakeasy albums, with the addition over the years of many other esteemed artists from around the world, including Sakari Kukko (Piirpaukki, Kingston Wall) Meissa Niang ( Orchestra Baobab). Pilgrim Speakeasy has attracted acclaim from music press including BBC6, Ireland's national RTE radio, The Guardian newspaper, Finnish music press receiving 4 and 5 star ratings form Desibeli.net and Noise.fi and has been featured in Huffington Post , Surviving The Golden Age , LGBT Weekly and a plethora of online blogs and podcasts. Acting ; Roger began his acting career playing roles in his music videos and later developed self made comedy short-sketch videos usually featuring various characters from Scotland or other characters with other UK dialects. His other work includes film work, holding a second degree black belt in Shotokan Karate he also has choreographed and performed fight scenes and performed stunt work. His latest role is in the upcoming film 'Gravedigger and the Random People' directed by Finnish director Joonas Makkonen (Bunny The Killer Thing) and shot on location in Northern Finland in the summer of 2020.
