Yusri Shaggy Sapari is a professional kepo (busybody) using the medium of recorded video to explore stories of people. He started his journey recording his grandmother and TV shows on his audio cassette tape recorder as a child. Shaggy went on later in his teenage years to study media hoping to become a journalist. That's when he fell in love with the arts. Shaggy's talents extend into both the film and theatre worlds as a filmmaker and projection designer. Shaggy's documentary "Trailer Boys", about young truck drivers from Singapore, premiered in 2018 as part of Freedom Film Festival in Petaling Jaya. It then went on to tour Penang before returning to Singapore, screened at The Projector that same year. Since then, it became part of the Official Selection for Singapore Shorts 2019 and is nominated for National Youth Film Awards in 2019. It also went on to win the Audience Choice Award for Viddsee's Juree Awards in 2019. In 2020, Trailer Boys became an Official Selection at the Cambodia International Film Festival. Under The Necessary Stage's "The Orange Playground" in 2014, Shaggy was mentored by Brian Gothong Tan. Since then, he has worked for countless theatre productions as a Multimedia Designer. One of his latest works being Model Citizens (2021) by The Necessary Stage and Butterfly Lovers (2022) by Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and Bhaskar's Arts Academy. Shaggy also does technical consultation adapting artwork into projection mapping installations. In the digital era, he helps out with digital transformation efforts for various organisations. Namely Asean Foundation and Singapore Repertory Theatre. Aside from video, Shaggy enjoys food but these days he loves being frugal even more.
