Simone Matheson is a multi-disciplinary artist, classically trained actor, and theatre creator born, raised, and presently based in Toronto. Simone is the co-Artistic Director of Arrowwood Theatre Co. and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Windsor and has trained with the likes of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Theatre Gargantua, Theatre Passe Muraille and internationally with Wayne State University MFA in Acting program fueling an incredibly rich and multifaceted artist foundation. As a multi-hyphenate, Simone is inspired to use projects as a means of connecting artists across media, where they can create meaningful experiences for themselves and patrons alike; to reinvest in the arts as a communal experience at every point of the process. As an actor, Simone has recently performed as Sara in the Canadian premiere of Feral (EmerGENce Theatre), Rachel in Sleepwalker (NAP Studio Films), What's on Your Mind? (Dance:Corps), #46 in The Wolves (University Players), and Elena in Hannah Moscovich's one-hander, USSR. I was also chosen as 1 of 3 finalists in Mandy's North American Monologue Competition 2021 for their performance of Skyler in Jordan Tannahill's Get Yourself Home Skyler James. Simone's personal practice centers on collective creation, physical theatre, and heightened realism; and is immensely invested in the universal bettering powers of artistic expression and community cultivation and outreach through the arts. Through this work, Simone has produced and co-created for the Toronto Fringe Festival (ICARUS, 2019), DARK CROP FESTIVAL (ICARUS, 2019; Here and There 2018), and Soulpepper's, QUEERFUTURES2099 (Contactless, 2021). Recently, Simone's first digital poetry publication, "After The Apocalypse", composed during their training in Theatre Passe Muraille's inaugural Centre Court, premiered as part of the 2021 Paprika Festival. Through artistry, Simone strives to reimagine our present notion of artistic experiences, and what they can become.
