Within his studies, Peterson's curriculum included vocal literature in English, French, German, Italian and Latin, orchestration and arranging, vocal technique, and vocal pedagogy of the Garcia Method under Margaret Harshaw, whose direct line of teachers extended back to Manuel Garcia (tenor), founder of the Garcia technique. Peterson has operated the Peterson Studio of Voice (1988-present) in Frankfort, Indiana, scouting & coaching for the Talent Fusion Agency - Indianapolis (2009-present) In addition to coaching singers, Peterson is a past Indiana Foreign Language Teacher of the Year - Secondary Schools (Japanese) learning German to some degree in the military stationed in Germany 1971-1974, and then learned Japanese in Japan as a missionary for two years (1975-1977). After completing his teaching degree in Choral Vocal music at IU, he became a choir director/coach in Bloomfield, Indiana - the location of Shawnee Summer Stock Theater, completing his master's from IU professionalizing his music degree and adding secondary education for a license to teach. He became TSC District Chairman of World Languages (2 high schools/6 middle schools, simultaneously serving on the Association of Indiana Teachers of Japanese, became a board member of the National Council of Japanese Language Teachers (5 years) with his last two years a president of that organization, which remaining active in his vocal music pursuits as Zone 3B Chair for Indiana All State Choirs concurrently, starting his professional stage work at Shawnee Summer Stock, Red Barn Theater. His first stage musical direction assignment was as a replacement director at Shawnee Summer Stock Theater, Bloomfield, Indiana after founding director and University of Chicago Professor, H. Adrian (Reb) Rehner fell ill. Peterson continued at Shawnee as a director, music director and actor for 8 full seasons. His credits include Emile de Becque (South Pacific) while contracted to be the music director at Jackson Hole Playhouse, Jackson Hole, Wyoming He as his wife Susan, a dance instructor for more than 45 years with her own studio, have judged for Jr. Miss pageants, talent shows, county fairs, 4H events and other programs. Still active in Indiana, his state of residence, Peterson remains active in film, staging, casting, directing, scouting, recording and performing as scheduled. In 2018 Michael premiered the role of Mr. Prince at the Delphi Opera House in the summer with a score and libretto by Paul Geraci (professor of music - trumpet, orchestration and arranging), at St. Joseph College. Peterson sang with the Indianapolis Opera from 1997 through 2003. Peterson coaches singers in all vocal styles. Current and former students have interned with the Berlin Summer Opéra program, Germany (2017), Belmont in Nashville (2018). One has attended the American Musical and Dramatic Arts (LA Campus), graduated from Ball State Theater and Telecommunications Programs (2019), auditioned for music programs at DePauw University, Indiana, and recent students have plans to attend Vanderbilt (2020) or continue masters studies at the University of Tennessee in voice studying with another Margaret Harshaw student who is on the faculty (2020) Michael was an extra in the feature film "Walter" seen as a grandfather wearing blue walking with his grandson 6 minutes into the film, played a lead role of French director PJ Roberts in an independent Taylor University festival film about an Asperger's syndrome actress who finds release in being on stage, the character "Vincent" in a 48 hour film festival entry from Indianapolis about a murderous alien android who steals memories a part of his alien assignment and most recently a 2019 film titled "Singh" as sympathetic airport Officer Lou.
