Amerindia Garrido Laz was born on Margarita Island, Venezuela. An attractive and welcoming soil surrounded by blue-green waters also known as the pearl of the Caribbean. Her father, a former high school professor is an author, poet, journalist and lawyer. Her mother, also a former high school professor is an accomplished painter, a skilled dressmaker, interior designer and more. As devoted parents, they raised Amerindia in Caracas, exposing her to literature and the arts and teaching her to be studious, disciplined and goal oriented. Her home was always filled with family, friends and creative excitement. At the age of five Amerindia was enrolled at the "Academia de Pintura de Las Mercedes" an art academy and began to seriously study oil painting. By the age of seven she had her first art exhibition which led to her being commissioned to paint and sell some of her works of art, she still continues to paint. Also, from childhood, Amerindia studied folkloric dance, ballet and drama, later, went on to study flamenco and different forms of Latin dance. She started acting in theater in elementary and high school, where she began to blossom as an actor. She was cast for lead and principle roles in plays such as: "The Mouse's House", "Alice in Wonderland", "The Martyrdom of Christopher Columbus" and "Zorro". This was the beginning of Amerindia finding her voice as an actor. She was feeling at home and in her element. She also pursued an interest in international relations and earned a Bachelors degree in International Studies at the Central University of Venezuela. She speaks 2 languages: Spanish, English, some French. In Caracas she owned and managed three retail clothing boutiques, traveling to and from New York City to purchase merchandise. After moving to New York, She earned a Masters degree in Business Administration at Adelphi University in Garden City , New York. Continuing in her passion for acting, she studied at The New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in New York City, formerly The School for Film & Television. She has since been cast in several roles for television, videos, as well as hosting a local television program in Brooklyn. She was cast in the movie "The Inmigrant Carmen G" as the role of "Nurse Sussy" and her latest project is in the film "Cofradia" as the role of "Nun Alison". She also writes poetry and has an intense thirst for artistic expression in which acting is at the heart of her creative fervor.
