Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Julie Lynn Thompson knew from the age of 9 that she was destined to make movies. With serious goals in mind, she applied and was accepted to the Drama program at the Youth Performing Arts School, a prestigious Louisville high school that has been internationally recognized for accomplishments in the performing arts. After years of training on the stage, Julie progressed to film education by attending the University of Southern California, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Film and Video Production in only 3 years of study. Among many internships Julie held was Creative Alliance, creating R&D materials for commercials with Long John Silver's and KFC. At Videobred, Julie worked on productions in multiple capacities for clients including Papa John's, GE, Maker's Mark, etc. At Big Kid Pictures, Julie assisted in production of "The Change-Up" ('11) and provided R&D for pitching scripts such as "Jack the Giant Slayer" ('13) and "Arthur & Lancelot." After graduating, Julie began working with John Huddles as a director's assistant during post on the film "After The Dark" ('14). She was then brought in to work with the producers of the film, Cybill Lui and George Vitezakis, at their production company An Olive Branch. In 2012 Julie left to get experience working on-set as a freelance filmmaker. Working her way up the production team on multiple films, Julie worked as Unit Production Manager for "Dark Power" (2013). The producers, recognizing her high level of organizational and problem solving skills, asked her to work as Post Production Supervisor for the feature once production wrapped. After completing post on "Dark Power," the producers offered her a creative position on their next film. During development, Julie traveled Europe with them on location scouts for the project, liaising with studios in Hungary, Romania, Gran Canaria and Madrid. While developing the feature, Julie produced "The Wretched" (2013), a short film which has since premiered in 7 film festivals, been nominated for 6 awards including Best Short, and won Best Cinematography at the Macabre Faire Film Fest.
