Gita Farid

Gita Farid is British and started her filmmaking career in South Korea, with an in-competition music-documentary on the color RED. She won and went on to make a film about a Korean Mermaid who is forced into marriage with an older English language teacher. She knows he doesn't swim so she dives off the cliff. Inspired by stifling European sensibilities and an English predilection for quirkiness and debatable cuisine, she enjoys exploring both off-beat and serious subjects for film. Historic films set in Europe of the Holocaust and the Soviet Union followed, some in black & white, all with a rich eye to detail the suffering and triumphs of the human spirit to survive, all the films winning hearts and Awards. Time travel and epic productions on a tight budget are her specialty.
