Dean Watson has been a comedy writer for the past 9 years. This usually sees him writing topical one-liners for New Zealand's highest rating TV comedy show "7 Days". In the last 12 months, Dean has produced 3 TV shows - Emmylou Loves (Season 2), Mainland Tonight and Silent Comedy, the latter two of which he was creator/executive producer. Silent Comedy is a one hour TV special featuring 8 of Australia's best new and established silent comedians. Mainland Tonight is a live half hour late night TV comedy show, which had over 100 people working on it. All three shows have been credited as being some of the most ambitious and large-scale productions in the history of community TV. After a wild and crazy youth spent trying to become a professional golfer, Dean made the sensible decision to start his TV career. His first gig was as a camera operator on the 2010 Channel 31 program "With Tim Ferguson", before landing writing gigs on the comedy game show 31 Questions and then on the live late night talk show "Live On Bowen." By 2013, he had worked his way up to head writer of "Live On Bowen", writing and producing monologues and comedy segments. That same year, Dean added 'producer' to his writing duties for his work on "31 Questions". "Live On Bowen" and "31 Questions" ran for 6 and 3 seasons respectively. Both shows were nominated for Outstanding Comedy Program at the 2014 Antenna Awards. Dean also picked up an Outstanding Writing In A Comedy Series award at LA WebFest 2014 for his work on the web series "Get Stuffed", a late night comedy show with puppets. To take his career to the next level, in 2014 Dean embarked on a 6 month trip to LA to pursue late night and sitcom writing. Six months of living in a Hollywood Boulevard backpackers hostel later, he moved to New Zealand (girl stuff) and has been writing for New Zealand's highest rating TV comedy show "7 Days" ever since. Not afraid to apply his comedy and leadership skills to different mediums, since 2015 Dean has been one of the core team members of New Zealand's biggest education company, LearnCoach. He's sold jokes in the UK, the US, has enjoyed stints as a humour columnist in nationally syndicated newspapers and writes humorous greeting cards for various companies around the world. Dean lives in Auckland, New Zealand, but makes frequent trips to Melbourne, where his TV production company Short Game Productions is based.
