Alex Chorley

Alex Chorley, 20, is a filmmaker, multi-award-winning actor, classically trained baritone singer and composer. Born in London in 2000, he emigrated to Australia with his family when he was 4 years old before moving back to England in 2019. At nine years of age, he first sang solo at the Sydney Opera House and now has numerous professional theatre credits to his name. These include 3 seasons with Opera Australia in the children's chorus of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Turandot" and as a child principal playing one of the 3 spirits in "The Magic Flute". He also spent a year playing the extremely demanding role of Michael Banks in the Sydney season of Disney and Cameron McKintosh's hit stage musical "Mary Poppins" and followed this by performing opposite Jack Thompson in the Sydney Theatre Company's production of "Under Milk Wood". Shortly after he was cast "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" with the Belvoir Street Theatre and has since performed in three seasons of pantomime at the King Street Theatre, Newtown. In 2017 he appeared in the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) world premiere production of "Intersection" consisting of a series of scenes which aimed to give a snapshot of life as a teenager in Australia. He also played the Scarecrow in his school musical, "The Wizard of Oz", along with the role of Basil Fawlty in his school senior acting ensemble's production of "Fawlty Towers".In 2018 (his last year of school) he featured as Demetrius in his school production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer night's Dream" and completed a 2 week tour of the UK with his school music department during which he sang in front of HRHs Prince William and Prince Harry at the Westminster Abbey ANZAC Day service, worked with the King's Singers and performed solos in Handel's House and Southwark Cathedral. Other previous professional engagements include a number of films, commercials, play readings, corporate work and numerous vocal recitals, including singing as a soloist and in ensembles with the classical vocal group "Divas on Demand". Alex is the winner of numerous scholarships and awards. He has won over 120 first places at various eisteddfods (performing arts competitions), including 23 gold medals at the prestigious Sydney Eisteddfod festival in both acting and singing (classical and contemporary) categories. In 2015 he became one of only 18 competitors in the 85-year history of the eisteddfod to score 100% in a section for his performance in the Shakespeare solo category. In 2018 he was the winner of the Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Actor's Championship while also placing first in the 16-18 years Shakespeare monologue, character monologue and verse speaking sections. He was also one of only four singers selected in the 2018 and 2019 Ryde Eisteddfod 21 years & over Operatic Aria Vocal Scholarship Final, while still only 17/18 years of age. In 2017 he was the overall winner of the Sydney Cantorian Classical Singing Competition and the 2016 winner of the Ryde Eisteddfod Senior Rotary Drama Championship. Alex has also been the recipient of multiple school scholarships over the last few years and sings in a baritone register over two octaves. He has passed Australian Music Examining Board AMusA associate diploma singing with distinction and Trinity College London ATCL associate diploma of speech and drama with distinction. He was also nominated for both Encore (HSC music showcase) and Onstage (HSC drama showcase) at the end of his final year of school in 2018. During this time, he also released his first experimental/alternative music album entitled 'Parasitia' and has recently released his latest single 'Face That Knows'. He is also the co-founder (along with Tess Cornwall) of film group Lexel Studios. They have enjoyed recent success with experimental web series 'This Room Does Not Exist' and short films 'Timeout' and 'Feedback' along with a number of other projects including short film 'Office Complexity' and upcoming short film 'Reflect Upon'. Alex is based in London and has dual UK / Australian citizenship (he holds passports for both countries).
