William Healy Sullivan was an American diplomat best known for serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Iran from 1977-1979 during the Iranian uprising of 1979. He also served as Ambassador to Laos from 1964-1969, the Philippines from 1973-1977. He is also known for overseeing the "secret war" in Laos, and later on helped to negotiate the end of U.S. military invasion of Vietnam. He died on Oct. 11 2013 at the Grand Oaks assisted living facility in Washington.
