Abbey Monnin was born and raised in the small, rural town of Russia, Ohio with her two younger brothers, Jacob and Joseph. Her first experience with acting came at the age of 11 when she was cast as Marta in a nearby city's community theater production of the classic musical, The Sound of Music. An avid reader throughout her childhood, Abbey quickly fell in love with acting as a way to "live out" a story while making use of her vivid and relentless imagination. Two short years later, Abbey had to give up acting when her military father was deployed overseas with the National Guard. In need of a new creative outlet, Abbey developed passions for writing, music (guitar, piano, singing, & songwriting), foreign languages (Japanese, French), and painting. She delved into academics as a high school student graduating near the top of her class with honors while simultaneously exploring her lifelong love for animals as a receptionist at a busy veterinary hospital. Following high school graduation, Abbey's ambition was to become a veterinarian, but a summer acting class at Piven Theatre (Evanston/Chicago) changed her course. Reminding Abbey why she loved the theatre and of her passion for acting, she enrolled at Kenyon College with the singular goal of acting professionally. Abbey also studied at Michael Howard Studios (NYC) during this time, where she fell in love with the make-it-happen energy that New York City runs on and its similarly intense theatre scene. Abbey began landing roles back home (Ohio) in both theatrical plays and independent film productions. Her first feature film project, the independent film Oracabessa, made its festival debut in 2015 at the London International Film Festival in World Cinema. Abbey will be moving to Los Angeles in February 2017 to pursue additional work and continue her actor's journey.
