Silvan Zürcher

Biography

Silvan Zürcher studied Philosophy, Film Studies, and German at the Universities of Bern and Zurich, then worked as a projectionist in an art house cinema in Bern. From 2009 to 2014 he studied film production at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). During his studies he produced short and mid-length films, and worked as assistant director while developing material for feature films. In 2017 he founded the production company Zürcher Film together with his brother Ramon Zürcher. His feature projects include Das merkwürdige Kätzchen and Das Mädchen und die Spinne, the latter co-written and co-produced, which premiered in the Encounters competition at the Berlinale and won Best Director and FIPRESCI awards. His working methods include building projects from initial writing through directing and producing, collaborating with close creative partners (notably his brother), participating in the festival circuit, and integrating visual, narrative, and aesthetic concerns.
