Ina Sotirova is an award-winning filmmaker and storyteller passionate about the world's diverse cultures, their unique traditions and expressions, and the people who make them come alive. Building on her solid background in journalism and photography, she started making films in 2011 and her debut short doc, freedom2dance, won the prestigious Du-Pont/Judy F. Crichton award for visual storytelling. Her fiction debut, the animated film Agwe won one of four spots on the 2018 JAFTA Propella script-to-screen program and was second-place winner for Best Caribbean Short Film at KingstOOn 2019 and a Best Short finalist at Animae Caribe 2019. The story was inspired by her deep appreciation of African art and culture. A citizen of the world born in Bulgaria, Ina lives in Kingston, Jamaica, where she also teaches and mentors inner-city youths at the UWI Community Film Project and budding visual artists at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.
