Nebraska-born Aubree Sweeney studied creative writing and English at The University of Arizona in Tucson. She then went on to earn a master's degree in screenwriting from the New York Film Academy's Burbank campus on Universal Studios Back Lot. After graduation, "Disney wasn't knocking down my door, begging me for my "amazing" thesis project. I wasn't sure what to do next." Being a huge Amy Poehler fan, Aubree ended up at Upright Citizens Brigade, an improvisational theater and training center in Los Angeles. "I went through their program and loved it," she said. "My confidence got better. My acting got better. My writing got better. Everything got better." A natural performer, Aubree was able to easily transition her dance and baton line experience to new mediums from the live stage, to film, web productions and commercial work. Because her monologues were particularly strong, Joel Spence, her improv team's coach, encouraged her to try her hand at standup. "I went to an open mic night at the HaHa Comedy Club in North Hollywood. It was messy. I took crash and burn to the next level, but I loved it. One month later, I'm on my first booked gig in the Original Room at The World Famous Comedy Store - so nervous and so excited that I'd found my place in this crazy industry." Today she is a nationally touring comedian. She spends a good part of the year touring in her RV along with her furry faced pride and joys; She-Ra and Paco. When Aubree's not on the road, she splits her time between Nebraska, where her family still lives, and Southern California. Aubree is equally adept as host, headliner and ensemble performer. She has become known for her engaging, high-energy, storytelling style that relates her observations and life experiences. When asked who her influences are, "I'm influenced by people every day. One of my proudest comedy moments, an audience member came up to me after a show and said that I reminded him and his wife of Phyllis Diller. Phyllis Diller is a hero of mine. This unsuspecting gentleman was hit hard with a hug... I made it out to the car before I teared up. Lucille Ball is also a huge influence for me, as well as Maria Bamford and Bobbie Oliver." Between shows, Sweeney is a tireless animal advocate. She works with Boxer Rescue LA, Patriotic Service Dogs Foundation, and the Sam Simon Foundation along with many other animal rescue organizations. She's also proud to support the men and women who serve or who have served in the U.S. military, and is thrilled to announce that a "Thank a Veteran" leg has been added to her "Scenic Route" Tour. Sweeney continues to build her theater resume and has been part of several television commercials that will be airing soon. You can also catch her in your living room most Saturday nights on WOWT's Omaha Live. She's also preparing for a Live Comedy Taping this summer at the Lofte Theatre in Manley, Nebraska. Her insane schedule keeps her incredibly busy, but she's always game for a hike or trip to Dog Beach. To keep up on Sweeney's tour dates, connect with her on Instagram or Facebook.
