Etienne Fourie

Etienne's 2013 directorial debut with the critically acclaimed feature film Die Windpomp, (The Windmill), was quickly followed by Dis Koue Kos, Skat (Just Dessert, Dear - 2016) and Liewe Kersfeesvader (Dear Father Christmas - 2017). Characterised by his trademark style of poignant drama interlaced with dark humor, his many accolades for these films include multiple nominations and awards, including Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Director for Die Windpomp and the 2021 SAFTA (South African Film and Television Awards) for Best Achievement in Directing TV Drama for Tydelik Terminaal. As an esteemed screenwriter Etienne has worked closely with African industry luminaries including internationally renowned novelist and executive producer Deon Meyer, which culminated in his adaptation of Deon Meyer's global best seller Heart of the Hunter (2022). Etienne's upcoming directorial slate includes the grounded sci-fi thriller, Man in the Moon, dark comedy Stiekyt, a children's fantasy series with merchandising opportunities, and the supernatural mystery series, Umoya ("Souls"). Etienne's critically acclaimed debut novel, Man in die Maan ("Man in the Moon") was published in August 2021.
